Make regular servicing your new year’s resolution.

Make regular servicing your new year’s resolution.

As the year draws to a close and a new one dawns, we often find ourselves wanting to build positive habits to make our lives a bit easier. This year, why not add car servicing to your list?

It seems we can’t go one day without a headline shouting about the latest hike in the cost of living crisis. With day-to-day spending on the rise, why not stop expensive issues with your car before they happen?

The AA recommends that your car should be serviced once every year, or every 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.Servicing should be carried out on top of your regular MOT’s. I have an electric car, does it need servicing?

Does my electric vehicle need servicing?

Electric vehicles (EV’S) are highly reliable, but they aren’t invincible! The advice given by the AA on servicing applies to all vehicles, not just traditional combustion engine cars.  If you want to learn more about the pros and cons of electric vehicles, why not check out our recent blog all about them?

What does a service include?

As described over on our Service page, here at FRM, we take the time to assess 15 major areas on your car for any faults or issues. This thorough check is completed by one of our specialists, you can rest easy knowing your car is in safe hands. A service addresses the most common problem areas of a car, as well as parts that go through the most wear and tear during typical use, such as your brakes, tyres and suspension.

What’s the difference between a service and a MOT?

An MOT is an annual vehicle safety and road worthiness test. The test will identify any issues that make the car unsafe to drive, within the  parameters of the MOT. Most importantly, the issues listed with your vehicle will not be fixed as a part of the MOT.

On the other hand, when you have a service, a highly trained mechanic will actively look for issues and address them where possible. Typically, minor repairs will be made during the service, but if it is your first service in a while, there may be major repairs needed that will need to be allotted time separately.
